Not sure what to say?

Dear Jean, Tom and family, Howard "Doc" Milliken was a very special man. No, he is a very special man living on in the hearts of all those who knew and loved him. Although I did not know him well, I remember his sitting in the Hallowell Community Band just last summer. Yes, of course he played his trumpet! I have come to realize that music was just one of his many endeavors. Doc will be missed by so many people but always very fondly remembered by those people. Linda Brunner

Tom, so sorry for your loss. Interesting man to say the least. We enjoyed his tales whenever he was able to join us at our Augusta Kiwanis Club meetings. Now you get to be the "grown-up" and that is always hard for us to face. Just wanted you to know that I was thinking of you. Sherry Gregory

Dear Milliken family,
Loved to play trumpet beside Doc with the band those summer nights in Boothbay. He was a joy to know. While he will be greatly missed, how nice to contemplate this eloquent obituary. Prayers are with you. -Heidi Chadbourne

To The Family of Doc Milliken,

In 1955, Doc administered our blood tests for our marriage license. What a wonderful doctor and human being. He knew everybody in Hallowell and always had kind words. Doc was always upbeat and we enjoyed seeing him at Old Hallowell Day events.More recently, when we summered at Cobbossee, we would give Doc and Madelyn a ride to Boothbay for the Thursday night concert on the Library lawn. I was so pleased to see him there last summer. I bet he is now...

Jean and Tom, your father delivered me into this world and remained a friend all my life. I was living in Portland a couple years back and ran into him at a Christmas concert. I had not seen him in years and he turned to me and said "well, Johnny Blake what are you doing here". I loved your father and remember all those summer times at the lake.

Dear Jean, Tom, and family,

My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you. I have such fond memories of your Dad and so enjoyed the stories he liked to tell of our families. I was also fortunate enough to have experienced his musical talents. I remember having heard him play his trumpet as late as this past summer. He, your Mom and my folks enjoyed many nights of card playing. If I know any of them, they are probably having some wild card games in heaven.

Jeannie & Tom,

I was so sorry to hear about your Dad. He was a Hallowell institution and loved by all. I had run into him a couple of different times, just by chance, over the years and he was always accommodating and willing to chat; he had a remarkable memory for people. Like many Old Hallowell people, he was our family doctor and I will always remeber him with that characteristic smile and wonderful manner. He will be sorely missed, but remembered as a wonderful man and doctor....

To Tom and family:
Prayers and sympathy are sent your way following the death of Dr. Milliken. I first met your father at Camp Bomazeen back when I was a staff member there. Dr. Howard would volunteer with Dr. Spellman and other docs and check in Boy Scout campers each Sunday. He was very prompt, and kept things moving. In my later life, when I worked at Togus in Medical Research and also as an RN, I was fortunate to be able to mingle with the "old guard" of the VA. Dr. Hornberger, and...

I remember Howard from the early 1930`s on Lake Cobbosseecontee. He was a fine man in every aspect of his life and will be remembered for for his integrity and high standards. My condolences and best wishes to the Milliken Family during their time of beveavement.
