I will always remember Howie's kindness, and his unique combination of gentle, calming gravitas and boyish wonder.
I think of him whenever I see good Japanese-inspired modern architecture, or a Native American mask in dramatic light, or the Space Needle (where he salvaged the job shack as a summer cabin).
His generous adventurous spirit and appreciation of the beauty to be found in unusual places is inspiring.
