Not sure what to say?

He made a difference for many students including me. I was a troubled teen in the late 60´s. He took a caring interest in me. I was always grateful for that even to this day! I´m regretful for never telling him . He was a great man!

I had Mr. Safier for History at Fairfax H.S. c/o 1993. Somehow, I never forgot his class. He showed a lot of enthusiasm in what he taught. I guess that's why his class was one that stood out throughout my 3 years at Fairfax. Thanks for teaching me about Joseph McCarthy as well as others moments in history. Rest easy.

Mr.Safier was my history teacher too. Class of 96. I enjoyed how he told a story, full of interesting facts & trivia. Not sure what brought him to mind tonight but sad to know he's gone. He really made a positive impact in lots of lives.

Just last night I went to a concert at the Greek Theater with my two older kids and being in that neighborhood, Howard Safier popped into my mind. I described to them my fond memories of weekend cross-country training runs up Vermont past the Greek up to Dante's View, followed by orange juice and breakfast at Mr. Safier's very cool Silverlake home. I recall his corduroy jackets and pipe dangling from his mouth teaching history, but more than that I remember his inspirational coaching. My...

Mr. Safier's history class was one of my most memorable at Fairfax. He was truly a gifted teacher with a knack for making learning fun! He will be missed.

I now live in England but read books about the American Civil War.(all the time!) Mr. Safier challenged us at Fairfax to question the facts as presented. I am sorry that I never met up with him ever again after High School. He was one of the best. My sympathies to his wife and family.

I was one of Mr. Safier's first students, and he influenced my lifelong passion for history. As a teacher myself now, I can appreciate his passion for learning. He made history exciting, and he taught us to think for ourselves. He was one of the great teachers one reads about but seldom encounters. I remember getting out of AP history just so I could have Mr. Safer instead. I saw him at out 30th reunion and we talked about his first year. He told me his first year was most memorable, and he...

mr safier was my history teacher, and my cross country coach during my senior year in 1992. he had a way of pushing us to do our best. my favorite high school sports memories were training under this man.... he made me run the farthest!

My deepest condolences to Mr Safier's family. The time spent with him in the classroom as his student created a foundation for my understanding of history and our country - but even more exposed me to the potential of thought and dialogue a great educator can create. I often would raise my hand to offer a different perspective than his lecture , and this amused him. He allowed my opinions and welcomed heated discussions . He taught me to defend my thoughts and feel confident in them. He set...
