Hubert Perry

Sorry to hear of Mr Perry's passing. We interviewed him for our oral history program, and I appreciated his willingness to make himself available, even at the age of 100.

I am very sad to hear of Mr. Perry's passing. I was a caregiver for his friend, Ali, and we had so many good times going out to various places and just visiting at their homes. He was really a wonderful gentleman and I will never forget him. I am really in awe of all of his accomplishments and he was a very humble person, and very nice. He will be very missed! Condolances to his family.

Just heard of our longtime former neighbor's passing. He was always friendly and very down to earth. It will be hard to imagine that house with anyone else in it. All our best to the family.

When I found out Hubert had passed, I sobbed. My heart was broken, but I remembered the great memories. I was a caregiver to Hubert. My 12 hour days seemed so short. I would look forward to going over to his house. I always enjoyed being with Mr. Perry. Whether we were out and about here in Whittier, whether it was out for coffee, going to PIH, going to lunch or just sitting at his home reading to him. I would always learn from him. The entire Clayton Family wishes you peace as Hubert is celebrated for a life lived to the fullest! Betty and Whit were fortunate to add Hubert and Louise to their circle of friends in the 50's and there are many cherished memories of the Perry Family ever since in Durango, Alamitos Bay, Balboa and Whittier. Were grateful for this association and for the influence for good that Hubert has been in our lives.

We were saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. Perry. Mr. and Mrs. Perry were very special to us. For nearly 40 years, they were regular customers of our family's restaurants, My Place and My Place Jr. Often, their children and later their grandchildren would join them. I created this portrait of Hubert in 1994. I was interviewing him while creating the images, so he was under the impression the portrait session would be another day. I knew this was a special portrait and his wife told me it was the best portrait he had ever done.
