Bates Rolf Funeral Home- New Boston Obituary

September 4, 1923 – December 20, 2015

The world lost a great husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, friend and “school man” when Hubert E. Simpson passed into eternal life on December 20, 2015.  Hubert Simpson was born in Old Boston, Texas, on September 4, 1923, to Francis Sue and Hal M. Simpson. He graduated from New Boston High School in 1940, then joined the United States Army Air Corp where he proudly served our nation from 1942-1946. Hubert went on to East Texas State University where he studied industrial arts and math and received a master’s degree in education administration. He returned to New Boston and became a teacher at New Boston High School. His career as a teacher led him to accept the principalship of NBHS from 1956-1974. He was asked later to serve his community as Superintendent of Schools in 1974, retiring in 1985. Upon retirement from the district, he accepted a seat on the Region 8 Education Service Center Board where he served our state for another 25 years.

Loved by many, he is survived by his daughter, Dr. Susan Joy Simpson Hull, and her husband Kent Hull. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Erin Whisenhunt (James), Laci Garbs (Bret), and Seth Simpson Laskoskie, Colton Hull and great-grandchild Bria Joanne Whisenhunt, sister-in-law Joy Walker Stone of Tulsa, Oklahoma, longtime friend Marjorie Griffin, and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Hubert is preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Joanne Walker Simpson (1987), and his brother Hal M. Simpson, Jr. as well as many friends and family members whom he dearly loved.

His love for the people of New Boston knew no bounds and his fondness for his former students, teachers and their families was always evident. Hubert was a lifelong member of the New Boston community, a proud member of the Texas Public Schools family, a devoted Christian, family man and friend to many. His legacy lives on in the numerous teachers, coaches, principals and school superintendents who have been influenced by his leadership. Admired and respected by so many, he made an indelible imprint on this world.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, December 23, 2015 in the New Boston High School Auditorium, New Boston Texas under the direction of Bates-Rolf Funeral Home, New Boston. Not sure what to say?

I drove to New Boston and back to Ft Worth the same day in order to attend his service. I thought highly of Mr Simpson. He had a difficult job, but he did a good job. He was a fair man and was truely the right man for the job in his day and time. I highly respected him and pray that he is resting in peace. Job well done!

I was so upset to hear of the death of one of the people I think was so instrumental in my successful future. He took me by the hand helped me understand my responsibilities for my future. Charles Weeks expressed best how he would on day one show you that he had the answers. I remember that paddle and what it meant to me. I remember how he would take me aside and help me understand what was necessary to have a successful life. I needed that. I had only he and Mrs Pirkey. He and Mrs Pirkey...

On behalf of the Business Management Office and Headquarters Command Staff at Red River Army Depot, we extend our deepest sympathy to the family of Mr. Simpson.

I have heard of Hubert Simpson for over 60 years, but never got to meet him personally. Troy Daniel thought he was really special so I guess they will be shaking hands today. Troy grew up in DeKalb.

I'm 77 years old and in all that time I've never known a better man than Hubert Simpson.

my sincere sympathys to the family. I enjoyed working with Hubert while working with the appraisal district. he was a very nice man. Charles coleman, Kailua- kona hawaii

Mr. Simpson was a true Southern Gentleman and Scholar. He was both a Mentor and Friend to all his students. I had the pleasure of knowing him as Principle and Superintendent. His wisdom and experience will be missed.

I will never forget Hubert Simpson. He was such a wonderful person; and exerted such a positive influence on so many students, over so many years. I will never forget walking down the halls at NBHS between classes; and seeing him standing there watching. Those black eyes could pierce right through you. It could be really intimidating to a 14-year old! Getting a dose of the paddle in his shop class was considered a rite of passage. Rest in peace, Mr. Simpson. I will never forget you.

I'm very sorry for the loss of your loved one. I hope the prayer found at 1Thessalonicans 4:14 offers hope and comfort.
