Not sure what to say?

We were blessed with the opportunity of knowing and enjoying wonderful meals with Mr. Smith (Vic) and family. He was always a joy to be around and it is a true honor to be able to say we knew Polk. You are missed.

Meeting and getting to know Mr. Smith was one of the best things that happened to me in my 15 years at the TU. He was the one of the kindest, most genuine men that I have ever met. He brightened my day every time I saw him. It was an honor and a priviledge to say I knew "Poke". He will be truly missed!

Vickie & Family,
As I read the write up on your dad, I recalled fond memories of you & him as he wrote about my little boy Eric Bundy back in 1982. I have kept all 3 of those and I will never forget how caring you both were to our family and the love that was poured out to us as a result of "Poke's" articles. I am sure we were just one of many family's whose lives he touched and influenced througout the years. I was saddened to hear of his passing but I am certain God is saying, "well...

I remember Vic, (Poke) as far back as when he worked on the Albany Herald in Ga. I was delighted to find him again when he started with the Times Union. I loved his tales about living in south central Ga. and his stories about fishing along the Ocmulgg river. I too was raised In that area in neighboring Coffee Co. and can relate to many of his stories. I met him at an event in St. Marys once, and had the pleasure of his company at a cookout in my back yard. We have lost a great American, and...

Mr. Smith related a few of my father's stories/tall tales years ago. He had a connection to his audience that is almost unheard of in the media today. He will be missed.

Vic was one of the funniest men I have ever know. He could make me laugh even when all I wanted to do was cry. We worked together at The Albany Herald from 1965 until he left to move to Florida. I will cherish my memories of him and I thank the Lord that He allowed me to know such a wonderful individual as Vic.

Thank you "Poke" for all the pleasure you gave to others by adding some humor now and then as we digested our daily news.

Vic "Poke McHenry" Smith... What a man! He was fun to read, kind to talk to and a REAL American! God Bless him and his family.
