Worked for Tapper when he was on Military Trail a tiny little place with a Big Man with a Big Heart sorry to hear about his passing.

Larger than life, sweet, wise, the funniest person I ever knew. The world is diminished without him.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Bayless family at your loss. Hugh was one of the first to welcome me to the Duke bsaeball team. A great teammate with a fiery attitude yet was quick with a joke. He will be missed....

I met Tapper at his first resrtaunt and became a waistress there. He taught me alot of his techniques to his cooking and I use them still to this day. I will miss Tapper dearly. He was a very kind and gentle man.I even met my husband from his bar and grill,many thanks to him.

Thanks for taking a rookie ball player under you wing and teaching him the ropes. You were a role model for all of us athletes in a time of turmoil. And Yes Larry I remember the good times in that mustang. George Fuller '73

Hugh was A Man Among Men, one of the most memorable characters I ever knew. I always thought I would see him again and feel so sad that I never will. What a Star he was.

I met Tapper at Duke. He and his family were kind enough to put up with me for a month for several summers for the main purpose of getting in shape for football.
40 years later and I realize how much he influenced many aspects of my life- taste in music, sense of humor and easy going style.
When I cross I hope Tapper once again is there to influence me in new areas and keep me out of trouble as he did many times.

I met Tapper over 20 years ago, went to his first bar & he told me i was his first customer. I never would of thought that he would become a life long friend. He will be in our hearts & our memories for ever. Rock on Tapper i know you will be watching down on us all from heaven
