Wow I just ran across this obituary . As a little girl I loved at 118 Walnut Street Montclair NJ. The children in the area would go to the fire house near Willow Street and Walnut Street and Mr. Hughes and other firemen would hose us down with the fire hose. My memories are wonderful memories of the days of old and Mr. Hughes was a wonderful, wonderful man who did so much for the community I went to school with his Sons you and Ronald at Immaculate Conception . I was probably eight or 10...

When I was a little girl, I lived at 118 Walnut St. it is *Now Egan and Sons restaurant. My fondest memories was going to the fire house with the neighborhood kids to get hosed down by the fireman during the scorching summer heat. Mr. you grapes was a wonderful man and I went to immaculate conception with his son. Just sharing a memory from the past, and I know that he is asking in the glory of the Lord. He was a wonderful man.

I was saddened to learn of the passing of your Dad and I'm sorry that I did not hear in time to pay my respects to him in person. I only learned of his passing on Sunday evening when a friend called to inquire if I didn't once know a Frank Grapes.

I have many very fond memories of both he and your Mom when they lived in Montclair. Although I must admit that he often intimidated the heck out of me.

To the Children and Grandchildren of Hugh and Grace Grapes;

It was with great sadness that we learned of Uncle Hughie's passing. The good news is that he's with his beloved Grace, his mother Elizabeth who passed 40 years ago, his father Joseph who passed almost 70 years ago. He must be at peace.

My parents send their heartfelt condolences at this time of loss. They will miss him too.
