I first saw him on tv as a kid of about 10 years old. I could not believe how quick and elusive he was The opposing players just could not seem to tackle him. I looked forward to every game he played in.

AS YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS MISS YOU HERE ON EARTH WE KNOW YOU AND PEGGY WILL LOOK DOWN ON US WITH LOVE. I WILL BE PROUD WEAR YOUR JERSEY WITH RESPECT FOR THE REST OF MY DAYS ON THIS PLANET. Condolences to Hugh's friends and family. Be comfort in knowing that your God above will support you through this and that he understands your grief.

Deepest sympathy to friends/family reading this. Hugh was a good friend of my parents, Carl and Louise Brettschneider. Like Hugh, my dad played pro football, and they shared that common bond. I had the pleasure to meet Hugh and play golf with him and my mom in Las Vegas - He was a true gentleman and much more than the athlete he was known for.

You will be remembered for your playing days.

Hugh is definitely in the category with the greatest "evasive/elusive" running backs who have ever played the game. His vision, anticipation, speed, and intelligence were absolutely amazing. A true 49er and football legend, and well-deserving Pro Football Hall of Famer, who lived a long and distinguished life.
