Not sure what to say?

Well over thirty years have passed since I last sat in Dr. Pendexter's classroom as an undergraduate. He was dedicated, thorough, demanding and, best of all, inspiring. He never lost faith me in as a student or person. In turn, I worked even harder. You see, I simply could not let him down. I am eternally grateful for having the great fortune to be one of his students, as well as for his genuine, inexhaustible patience. Dr. Pendexter continues to inspire me even to this day. Requiescat...

Dr. Pendexter was one of those professors that you always remember fondly. Much love to his family,
Dotti Puder Overstreet

I can think of no stronger sign of a life lived well than that, at its end, fond memories overpower grief. Dr. Pendexter's wit helped make tutoring in the original ASC Writing Center the highlight of my college years.

Hugh will ever be remembered by me and my family as a man of sharp wit, a lively mind and a keen love of the English language as it was used to achieve the highest levels of art and poetic expression. His dedication to his students should stand henceforth as a beacon and an example to all who chose education as a profession.

Most of the comments on this page, refer to Dr. Pendexter's inspirational effect. Hugh, was all of that and much more. I will never forget his calm, his friendly, erudite humor and his genuine concern for all.

Take a friend to a play.

Dr. Pendexter, I will miss you. May God be with the family at this time of grief. I know one day I will meet you in Heaven again. Life is never ending as God is never ending. Rev. Dr. John T. Maddox (Tom)

Hugh kept alive the Poetry Society of Georgia for a number of years. He was untiring, gentle, erudite, patient, and a wonderful contributor of his own poetry.

Dr. Pendexter was one of the best professor's that I had while attending Armstrong. I greately enjoyed his classes. Just this week by some odd coincidence I was recalling his having talked about the Elizabethan play "Gammer Gurtin"s Needle" and today to learn of his passing is surreal.

Doc has been like a father to me for thirty years. I loved him with all my heart and although I mourn for his abscence in our lives I also rejoice that I had the blessing of being part of his. He inspired us all to be the best we could be. I salute his service, his life and his spirit. You will always be in our hearts Doc.
