GILLESPIE, Ian Gordon. If you are reading this, then I have gone. Didn't expect my retirement to be so permanent so abruptly. We were all shocked by how quickly this cancer took its toll - aggressive is an understatement. But I have had a good life and done so much. This is no small measure...

Not sure what to say?

I was very sorry to hear of Ian's untimely death. He and I were good friends at school. We would cycle home together from Hastings Intermediate, and he would turn off at St George's Road and I would carry on to Havelock North. Of course, that was many years ago now.

Sweet memories of an amazing trip to New Zealand in 2007. Ian had worked out a detailed itinerary for Zens aunts from England. Time spent travelling together his patience and sense of fun. More recently a family gathering in England. Ian rest in peace

It´s a long time since our visits to the St George´s road Orchard and school days with Ian but we followed each others travels on Facebook so I still feel connected. I tried to get him to visit us in Clyde but it never worked out. The Gillespie´s and our family go back a long way and I will miss this branch of the connection being lost. Safe travels my friend. I had the pleasure of meeting Ian during a photography tour of Provence in June/July this year. With his calm, thoughtful manner and practical help he was a valued and much respected member of our group. I did enjoy his company, especially his gentle sense of humour and feel saddened that his life has been cut short before he was able to fully enjoy a well earned retirement. My warmest thoughts and condolences go to his family. Adieu mon ami.
