Obituary

It's hard for family members to picture Ian Muller in any job that's not with the Marines. The young corporal from Danville, Vt., said he picked the Marines because it's the toughest and most elite of the military branches.

But it's a career he chose only because he was having trouble finding work around Danville, says his father, Clif Muller. He knew the dangers that came with his choice, and they scared him, the Marine told his brother, Ryan.

But after nearly four years, Cpl. Muller had overcome his fear and was dedicated to his job and fellow Marines. He was sent to Afghanistan in January and often volunteered to take the more dangerous lead position during combat patrols. He said he did it because many of his colleagues had wives and children, and he did not.

Cpl. Muller, 22, was killed in combat March 11 in Afghanistan's Helmand province. He was assigned to Camp Lejeune.

Friends say Muller lived his life to the fullest; he enjoyed skiing, snowboarding, bodybuilding, soccer and track. He also played the viola and liked to cook.

He also leaves behind his mother, Suzanne Muller, four other brothers and a sister.

Not sure what to say?

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and to also let the Muller Family know that we recently sent Care Packages to American troops in the war zones. Each box carried a dedication sheet that includes the name, service information and a photo of your loved one, Ian M. Muller US Marine Corporal. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community...

To the Muller Family and the Marines of 2/8-
Ian was a friend of mine throughout boot camp. He was an amazing leader and an even better friend. He will never be forgotten. You are missed, brother.

I personally did not know Ian or your family, but his loss is still with me. May you be proud of his service and his sacrifice for our country. I hope that you find some solice in knowing that another Vermonter that stood and saluted his service in Danbury will always remember him in her heart. My pride is in your family for enduring your loss and still continuing to live and keep his life alive.

I will always remember Ian from Alexandria VA. He was a good kid and had a wonderful loving family. I can only imagine the pain you all are suffering. We are so very sorry for your loss.

I will always remember Ians outgoing and friendly personality. He always was very determined and worked very hard for what he believed in, which I saw during our runs together at LSC. My thoughts are with him and his family. He will be missed.

To the Family of Cpl. Ian Muller

I wish I had the right words to say at this time, but I know there are none. I grieve for the loss of your beloved son and I know that I cannot fathom the pain you must be feeling. Your son will not be forgotten and what he did to help protect our homeland and our freedoms. It was his life that made him a Hero. It was his noble path that made him an American Hero. It was his ultimate sacrifice that made him a Fallen Hero. May God carry...
