Dearest McVey Family,
I had the honor of knowing Ian personally as a fellow student at RPI. 1 year later I feel as if I am following in his footsteps as a 2ndLt stationed at Camp Lejeune. Every motorcyclist on the road brings memories of Ian. Your Marine is in my thoughts and prayers. I admired him and thought of him as a brother. I promise to pay him respects at his grounds on July 19.

To Ian's Family: I am so sorry about the motorcycle accident that took the life of Ian. It's similar to the accident on Quantico Marine Base that took the life of my nephew 2nd Lt. Seth Pierce on October 21, 2007, while he was attending TBS. Maybe he and Ian knew each other. They were both 23 years of age and neither of them were able to carry out their dreams and potential in the Marine Corps. The manner of their deaths makes the grief so deep. Contact me if you wish.

It also made me very proud to attend his commissioning ceremony and see how much his family supports him. You all are in my thoughts and prayers. May your son rest in...
