Not sure what to say?

What and incredible man and incredible human being was Dr. Ian Porter. I was a medical student at Albany Med from September 1967 through May of 1971 and spent a very significant amount of time in my third and fourth years on pediatrics where he was the Chairman. When my rotation in pediatrics in our third year began, Dr. Porter had decided that the third year students rotating through pediatrics should have a mentor and assigned one of the faculty to two third year students. However, I had...

Our dear Dr. Porter. You had such an immense impact on so many of us. In 1987, Dr. Alfred Gellhorn and you interviewed and hired me for my first job in Graduate Medical Edication immediately after finishing my MBA at Rensselaer. 29 years later, I'm still in love with GME and I give you all the credit. I was only one of many who considered you a true mentor. I loved every day of our work together. I admired you - a renaissance man who loved pediatrics, genetics, medical ethics, the Hudson...

Julian and family,

A great loss to us all. Congratulations to him for such a life well lived and my sympathy to you at this time.

Dr Porter was one of my medical school interviewers when I was applying to Albany Medical College.

I worked at St. Margarets for many years . St Margarets always held a special place in Dr Porter's heart he made rounds with his students and treated our children with the dignity and respect they deserved. May God Bless you Dr. Porter

Ian recruited me to my first job, at both the Birth Defects Institute [BDI in the New York State Department of Health] and a courtesy appointment in the Department of Pediatrics of Albany Medical College, in 1968. I was impressed by how he suavely found resources from the BDI to shore up the Pediatrics Department academically, helping to bring such luminaries as Roger Herdman, Bernard Pollara, and others to the Health Department and Albany Medical College, adding immensely to the luster...

Ian was a true scholar and his knowledge and company were enjoyed discussing many subjects, including Hudson River School art. We never did get to that book on Hudson River-front mansions, but it was always fun considering it. RIP, Ian and my sympathy goes out to his family and Josey.

I worked for and with Dr. Porter on my first job as a genetic counselor at Albany Medical Center. This time of year, I'm thinking of the time he closed the office for a holiday lunch to a restaurant' in downtown Albany, and presented all the staff with a basket of gourmet goodies including fudge sauces. When I asked him the best way to use these, he said to take a spoon and sit down with the jar, and finish it up. Gotta love him! That's the way he did everything. He relished the good stuff!...
