I only just learned of his passing, and feeling quite emotional thinking of him and our relationship as friends and he my mentor. I'm so sorry I was not able to connect with him again over the last few years of his life. He supported me and my endeavors with enthusiasm and kindness. He was even one of my official references for my service in the Peace Corps 97-98. I loved him much. Henry and I fondly remember a magical evening in Dr. Fawal's company and will forever cherish his engaging intellect and charm - he graced the world and made it a better place.

Offering my condolences to his family with confidence that his great spirit lives on in them. His work was inspirational.

I was a student of Dr. Fawal's at UAB in the 1980's. He was a wonderful and engaging literature teacher and I thoroughly enjoyed his class.
I did not know these other things about him, but plan on reading his books. What a legacy and gift he left in these for all of us. Thank you Dr. Fawal. My sympathies are with his family and friends.
