Ila Hamar Heitzmann

1926 - 2017

Ila Hamar Heitzmann, age 90, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 27, 2017 with her daughters by her side. Mrs. Heitzmann was a native of Casper, WY and a resident of Metairie, LA. Beloved wife of 70 years to the late Gustave Julius "Gus" Heitzmann. Mother of Lois H. Orillion, Gail H. Neal (Gary) and Marsha H. Morriz (Tony). Grandmother of Jason Orillion, Jeremy Simmons (Amy) and Lindsay Spears (Josh). Great grandmother of Emily Simmons, Andrew Simmons, Noah Spears, Eli Spears, Stephanie Benitez and Jacob Benitez. Daughter of the late Roy Hamar and Nannie Story Hamar. Sister of Frank Hamar (Pam), Lynda Coyne (Bob) and the late Curtis Hamar, Russell Hamar, Max Hamar, Glenn Hamar and Bethel Cronin. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Heitzmann was a charter member of Atonement Lutheran Church, a member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church and a retired employee for the Jefferson Parish School System. She loved being with her family and enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, needlework and quilting. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by everyone whose lives she touched. Mrs. Heitzmann's family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Brookdale Senior Living Center and Canon Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., near Clearview Pkwy., in Metairie, LA on Tuesday morning, January 31, 2017 beginning at 9:00 AM with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 AM in Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home's chapel. Interment will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, St. Rose, LA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association, 3445 N. Causeway Blvd., Metairie, LA 70002.
