Inam Yacoub Bathish passed away peacefully on March 23, 2024, at home surrounded by her husband and children. Born February 6, 1940, in Nazareth, Palestine, Inam was the daughter of Yacoub and Marie Farah. She married Adeeb Bathish on July 31, 1960, and they welcomed three of their four children in Nazareth. In 1968, following the 1967 War, Inam and Adeeb immigrated to the United States in search of a more peaceful life. They settled in Flint, Michigan, where Inam’s parents, following their own immigration, were already living, and it was in Flint that they welcomed their fourth child.
After raising her children, Inam began work as an educator, helping newly immigrated students learn English. She worked at UM-Flint, with the Genesee Intermediate School District, and finally with the Flint Public Schools until her retirement in 2004. Inam loved her students and was, in turn, equally adored by them.
Inam loved her garden and flowers and spent many happy hours tending them in her backyard. She loved to sing, dance, cook, and feed anyone who walked through her door. Family time in Flint and at the cottage on Shady Lane was treasured. Walking the beach on Lake Huron with her children and grandchildren and collecting sea glass were pastimes that brought her true joy.
Inam had a big and generous heart, a loving smile, a wonderful laugh, a fierce scowl, and a mischievous sense of humor. Her beautiful blue eyes were kind and memorable to everyone she met. Inam’s joy in cooking for and feeding those she loved is legendary; Inam’s kitchen and Teta’s food were the best.
Of all that she loved, Inam’s greatest love was her family. She is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years, Adeeb Bathish, who always referred to her as his ‘wonderful wife’. Her children Maryrose ‘Rosa’ (Marvin) Williams, Samir Bathish, Ramzy (Natalie) Bathish, and Paul (Jodie) Bathish. Her grandchildren Marvin Jr., Monica, and Michael (Bianca) Williams, Jacob, Mason, Lily, Dylan, Hudson, and Logan Bathish. Her great-grandchildren Zoë and Noam Williams. Her sisters Salwa Awad, Hiam Bathish, Naila Banna, Hanan Farah, and her brother Peter Farah, as well as many nieces and nephews she adored. She was preceded in death by her brother, Hani Farah.
A celebration of Inam’s life will be planned for this summer.
Inam, who loved children and hated cancer, was a supporter of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Memorial donations in her honor can be made at www.events.stjude.org/Inam_Bathish
