As a sergeant, Iosiwo Uruo led by example, but soldiers in his unit were never afraid to talk to him and learn from him. He was always ready to pull his shift, "and then some," said Spc. Mark Lindsay. "He was always there for us." Uruo, 27, of Agana Heights, Guam, was killed May 24 by small-arms fire in Buhriz. He was assigned to Fort Lewis. His family moved from the Island of Truk to America to seek a better life, said Lt. Col. Chris Cieply, a Fort Lewis chaplain. Uruo was born in Guam, a U.S. territory. Uruo was quiet, shy and determined, and good at whatever he did. He loved football, swimming and off-roading, and was respectful of his parents. "He gained respect by his actions, not by his words," Lindsay said. "I gunned beside him in Iraq. I was proud to fight with him." Mayor Paul McDonald said that he remembers Uruo being "a very quiet and reserved individual," who was "very intelligent and never got into trouble." He is survived by his mother, Iosita, and his father, Isaoshy. "I wanted him to go to school because he was good in architecture, but he told me, ''Dad, I''m sorry but I want to join the service,''" the elder Uruo said.

Just thought I would come by today. You popped into my head today... Lol. Just a random day at work, and all of a sudden I saw this guy in uniform walk into my store and I could say that it was a spitting image of you. I literally took another look just to be sure. But the funny thing that guy I saw was nothing like you. it was my imagination, my brain was thinking and stressing and you knew this so you decided to pop in to my mind and remind me to breathe take a step back and reevaluate....

I don't know if this will reach anyone. But when I served with Uruo, I had the honor and privilege of bringing him home with me to Ohio! It's sad to hear about a young man that you once stood side by side with. Iosiwo Uruo gave me his saber sword before he left to Korea from Ft. Knox! He is greatly missed. Rest Easy brother! Scouts Out!
