Ira Canady Sr., was a kind and gentle man with a smile and who always had kind words for others.

Ira was born in the Little Rockie Community on March 28, 1900, the son of the late Jim and Katherine Young Canady. He confessed Christ at an early age and united with Ebenezer Baptist Church.

United in Holy Matrimony to Clara McCann, Ira was a family man who worked very hard in the Silver Community. He moved to Cameron, Texas, in 1941 and spent many of his working years with Ideal Hatchery.

He became affiliated with Progressive Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. H. K. Hornsberry where he served as a deacon for many years. Ira was also affiliated with the Cameron Prince Hill Lodge, N.A.A.C. P., O.J. Thomas Alumni, and Parents Taking Action (PTA).

Ira, 100, died at a Temple, Texas, nursing home on Friday, December 1, 2000.

Pre-deceased by his wife, Clara and his son, Tommy, Ira is survived by 12 children, Onnie Parks of Country Club Hill, Illinois, Verdell Canady and Benny Canady of Temple, Texas, Ira Canady Jr., of Cameron, Texas, Evera Canady-Enard of Orange, Texas, Doris D. Canady of Cameron, Texas, Hattie T. Canady-Steward of Temple, Texas, Cleo Canady of Baytown, Texas, R.L. Canady of Dallas, Texas, and Hubert Canady of Fort Worth, Texas, Clyde M. Canady of Austin, Texas and LaBert Anderson of Country Club, Illinois; one brother-in-law, Harvey Jones; one sister-in-law Letha Canady; three sisters, Annie Canady-Henry, Ester Canady-Sins, and Irine Canady-Savage all of Lamesa, Texas; two sons-in-law, Louis Enard and Charles Steward Sr.; seven daughters-in-law, Lorena Canady, Lucinda Canady, Faye Canady, Ida P. Canady, Camilla Canady, Cathy Anderson and Karen Canady; 29 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, church family and other friends.
