Not sure what to say?

I was just notified about Professor Shepard's passing and truly saddened. He was a great professor and even better person.

I still remember the day I asked him for help with getting a job at a Big 4 firm so I could gain some tax experience. I had spent months trying to get a foot in the door but with no success.

I only knew Ira from being students in Melton classes together. He made such interesting comments. I wish I'd known him better.

I remember Ira asking me at an event at UH where my wife was. I said in a low voice, "uh, I'm divorced ..." Ira beamed at me, and said "Oh! Then you're a graduate!" From then on I was okay. Thanks Ira. I owe you. Oh, and you were a great tax professor too -- I actually wanted to practice tax law at the firm that hired me, but they wanted me to have an LL.M. from NYU. Nah, I thought. I'm not going back for any more school. Still, I appreciate that I was never afraid of tax issues in the...
