Passion for Paddleball
The closer it got to Saturday, the more excited Ira Zaslow would become. At 55, a financial analyst for Lehman Brothers, he was like a boy about the weekend. He would call Bryan, his eldest son, to say: "This weekend is going to be great!"

For Mr. Zaslow, weekends meant paddleball. "He had a passion for it," said Bryan Zaslow. "It was pure happiness for him to wake up at 6 on Saturdays and Sundays and meet the same paddleball friends. He went anywhere to play." An argument over a foul ball? Play it over, he would say. "Anything," Bryan Zaslow said, "to play more."

His other passions were equally homey: A good nap on the couch. Listening to the car radio while Felicia, his wife of 31 years, shopped at the mall. The pizza at a place in North Woodmere, his Long Island hometown.

A quiet man, he went out of his way to lend a hand, while deflecting the credit. When New York University rejected a young Lehman employee, he made a call or two and got her in. Then he congratulated her. "He had time for everybody," his son said. " 'Whatever you want,' he'd say."

Not sure what to say?

I worked with Ira for a brief time at Salomon Brothers and then used to see him on the LIRR we had many wonderful conversations about his wife and boys. He was a lovely man who when you spoke to him gave you his full attention. No matter how many years go by it still seems like just yesterday that we were talking and sharing family stories on the train. Never forgotten!

God bless his soul, I was looking through a list of the victims and saw this name, read about him and was saddened he still had lots of life ahead of him and didn't deserve this. God rest his soul.

To the family and friends of Ira Zaslow:
Please know that Ira will be held in the hearts of Americans forever. I cannot and will not allow those we lost on 9/11 be forgotten My deepest sympathy to you.

Many years ago my wife and I had the pleasure of meeting Ira, his wife and two of their friends on a cruise when we shared a dining table. I remembered him saying that he had an office in one of the Twin Towers. We often thought if Ira survived the terrible disaster and it was only when my wife and I visited the memorial we searched for his Christian name due to the fact we didn't remember his surname. Unfortunately coming from N'Ireland the name Ira is similar to the IRA (Irish Republican...

Ira will be missed so much. He didnt die in vain, but continue to watch over us in spirit

I grew up across the street from Ira in Elmhurst and knew him in his early years, mostly from the park on Broadway. He was a great athlete with a wonderful jump shot from the corner. So smooth and so accurate. We lost touch during the college years but I remember him well. I also remember his little brother, "Dougie" (if memory serves) and if you are reading this he loved you very much.

Your friends from Lehman Brothers are thinking of you Ira.

I remember Ira fondly! Knew him at Mobil Corp when he worked in the Telecommunications Dept. Always appreciated the help he gave me, as a member of the Computer Dept. A warm, friendly man!
