Irene Elizabeth Styrcula Laff, of Slidell, LA, passed away peacefully on October 06, 2021, at the age of 82, after a long battle with cancer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Laff, Sr; her long-time companion, Edward Graefen; her beloved parents, Stella and Joseph Styrcula; and her brother, Richard Styrcula.
Irene is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth V. Wojciak Messa; her son, Stanley J. Laff (Nycole); her granddaughter, Victoria A. Dombrowski Stelfox; grandson, Seth Laff; and great granddaughter, Allyse M. Stelfox; a niece and nephews.
She was a native of Chicago, Illinois and a longtime resident of Slidell, Louisiana. During her time in Slidell, LA, she would donate her time and supplies to animal rescues. She had a deep love for her “puppies and kitties” and helping all animals that needed it.
Irene will be remembered as the “glue that kept the family together”, feisty, opinionated, loving, and caring. Most of all her family and friends will remember her love for life. She was one who always wanted to be outside and had a “green thumb”. She loved planting and tending to her many gardens. She was known for her amazing Polish cooking, teaching the Polish language, Polka music, contagious laugh, and her love for cursing (one of her many funny quirks). Irene could light up the room with her quirky, loud personality and would always be there if you needed help. One thing will always hold true, the love for her family and making sure their needs were met, even in death. While she loved talking to people and didn’t know a stranger there would be times, she wanted her grounding space. As she used to say, “No news, is good news”.
She was the type of person you could talk to for hours and she would listen, giving advice when prompted (usually not what you wanted to hear). While she has left the living world, she will always be in the hearts and minds of her family and friends.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Service at HONAKER FUNERAL HOME,
1751 GAUSE Blvd. WEST (IN FOREST LAWN CEMETERY), Slidell, LA on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at 2:00 P.M.
Interment will follow in FOREST LAWN CEMETERY.
Visitation on Tuesday after 12:00 P.M. until funeral time.
