Rivet Funeral Home & Crematorium Inc. - Merrimack Obituary

Irene Elizabeth Sullivan enjoyed a peaceful departure from this world during her sleep, in her home of 51 years in Merrimack, NH.  Her life was marked by her devotion to her children and love of her parish, Our Lady of Mercy.

She was born August 12,1942 in Staten Island, NY, daughter of Margaret LaPoint and William Sullivan.  She married in NY and moved her young family to Merrimack, where her home soon became the place where all the kids on the street came to play.  Irene loved making pizza, feeding the birds, writing cards, and cheering on all the Boston sports teams.  She retired as a secretary from Kollsman Instruments but her favorite job by far was making deliveries for the Merrimack Flower Shop.

Always willing to give up her time, she spent many of her days volunteering for school and parish activities.  Wherever a helping hand was needed, Irene showed up.  She cherished her yearly summer vacation to Lake Bomoseen, Vermont, especially when she got to see firework displays.  She was happiest, however, while taking care of her two grandsons and her grand dog Looch.  Irene had a simple guide for life, trusting in the Lord.

She is survived by her children, John Rasmussen, Virginia Rasmussen, Richard Rasmussen, Michael Rasmussen and his spouse Barbara Davis; her grandsons Thomas Miller and Joseph Miller; and her brother Donald Sullivan.  She is also survived by her sister-in-law Monica Sullivan and many wonderful nieces and nephews.  Along with her parents she was pre-deceased by three siblings, Vincent Sullivan, Lawrence Sullivan, and Virginia Walsh.

Visitation hours will be held at the Rivet Funeral Home, 425 Daniel Webster Highway, Merrimack NH on Thursday, September 26, 2024 from 4 – 7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 16 Baboosic Lake Road, Merrimack on Friday, September 27, 2024 at 9:30 AM with burial to follow in Last Rest Cemetery.
