Iris KIPPELS

KIPPELS, Iris Iris Berlier Kippels, 91, died at Park Springs Community in Stone Mountain on Monday, January 19th, 2015. She is survived by her loving husband, Horace "Kip" Kippels, son Steven Kippels (Liz) of Greensboro, GA, daughter Andrea Kippels of Decatur, GA and son Kenneth Kippels (Bridget) of Plano, Texas. She is also survived by grandson Loren Kippels (Amy) of Alpharetta, GA, granddaughters Mariel Mueller (Jason) and Melissa Vest (Zac) in Texas, and five great grandchildren. Iris grew up in New Orleans, 7th of 8 children. She was athletic enjoying competitive swimming and diving, and was a bathing beauty contest winner at 16. Iris played French horn and marched in Mardi Gras parades in high school. She worked at New Orleans Public Service, and volunteer clerked for the Coast Guard during WWII before meeting husband Kip and marrying in 1944, together raising three children. Iris was an excellent cook and seamstress enjoying gardening and flower arranging. She did part-time bookkeeping while residing in Baton Rouge, LA. Iris excelled in needlework, quilting and applique winning blue ribbon awards for her work at quilting shows.
