Dear Charlotte,
I am sorry to hear of Irwin's passing. I am still finding pictures of all of you together with my parents at various parties and affairs. As you know Irwin had a profound affect on my life. Because of him I went into research and because of him I got accepted into Penn Dental School. Both Irwin and you were great, dear friends of my parents. He will be missed.
Love

Dear Charlotte,
I was saddened to learn of Irwin's passing. Irwin and I became friends and colleagues in 1947 while I was working as a research assistant in Dr. Karshan's biochemistry laboratory. At the time, ammoniated products were in vogue. Irwin was so enthusiastic about the trends in the prevention of dental caries and wrote several important reviews on the subject. Irwin was my advocate when I came up for tenure at Columbia. I retired in 1989. He was truly a giant. A superb...

Dear Charlotte and family,

Rhonna and I were shocked and saddened to learn of Irwin's death from the NY Times.

Irwin was a light and inspiration to both of us and was always able to add perspective and wisdom when we needed it. The times we spent with both of you were very special.

Lots of love,
Don and Rhonna (Cohen) Chambers

Dear Mrs. Mandel and Family,
My deepest condolences for your loss. I have a nice story to share. I was a 2nd year student in 1988 and we had just started in the clinic. One of the assistants in the Oral Surgery clinic was out and Dr. Mandel needed an assistant for 3rd molar surgery. He asked for a volunteer among us and since I had worked as an assistant I was glad to help. Dr. Mandel could be a little gruff and it was a bit of a difficult extraction, but I kept up pretty well. He...

Dear Charlotte and Family,
I am so sorry to hear of Dr. Mandel's passing. He is the reason I attended Columbia and responsible for my ending up in Rochester, with all of the wonderful things that have followed for me, both professionally and personally. I remember fondly, the time I spent with Dr. Mandel, and to me, he was Columbia's heart and soul.

Dear Charlotte,
Please know that so many of us share in the loss of Irwin. We have gained so much from being colleagues and friends with Irwin. He was an outstanding mentor in my research career and was such a good friend. We all share in you and your family's missing his presence. He is resting in peace. Linsy Farris
