Grier Funeral Service, Inc. - Charlotte Obituary

Mr. Isaac Buford Cooper was called to eternal rest on Sunday, November 5, 2023.  He was born to the Christian household of the late Buford Lee Cooper and Hazeline Gladney Cooper.

He attended Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools and married his beloved Carolyn in 1964 and from this union had two children.

Isaac was employed with the City of Charlotte for 20 years. He was handpicked as the first of a 5-man crew who oversaw all the pipes within the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Water System.  He enjoyed this work so much, that upon retirement he told them,           “If I didn’t have to make a living for my family, I would have done it for free!”

Isaac was also an inventor.  He holds a Patent (4,306,693) with the Patent and Trademarks Office of the United States of America.

Mr. Ike, as he was fondly called, was a creative and multi-talented man.  He enjoyed and thrived from the many skills he has learned over a lifetime.  He was self employed as a welder and completed many projects for numerous property management companies.  He was a carpenter and with his OWN Hands made many improvements to his home, for his family, to include a master bedroom, a full basement, a wood burning stove and a workshop that rivaled many commercially built units.  He loved yardwork and gardening; and was especially proud of his fruit trees, which he generously shared with his neighbors who were waiting in anticipation EVERY SEASON.

He was a devoted Husband and Father and loved traveling with his family across the United States.

Those who cherish his loving memory are his wife, Carolyn Cooper; his son, Isaac K. Cooper; his daughter, Terri Cooper; his brother, Ronnie Cooper and sister-in-law,  Lavaett; and his sister, Annette Willis; grandchildren, Jennifer Draffin and Omar Rasheed; sister- and brother-in-law, Beverly Sanders and Edward; great grandchildren, Aiden Hollingsworth, Declan Smith, Harper Smith, and Jaden Magee; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends
