Not sure what to say?

Isabel was a mentor and model for many, myself included. She set a high standard for quality and excellence in a movement that sometimes struggled to find those qualities. She modeled a creative process that was grounded in elemental music's uniquely elegant structures, and her presence demanded civility. She taught me how to make space for my students to discover their musical selves, and to grow. She will be missed, but her inspiration will live on in those she taught and touched.

I will remember Isabel Carley as an outwardly dour Scottish lady with a bubble of humor and twinkle just under the surface, ready to break through. Her throaty giggle made angels laugh. Isabel's respect for learning, her unique way of investigating music -- particularly recorder, and of imparting what she observed, was singular. Isabel was an amazing teacher. In addition to teaching us much about music, all recorder students will remember learning one very important rule of musicianship: don't practice in public...sshhhhwwwwssshhhwww:) May she be dancing with the modes.

Isabel was my hero. She was a wonderful person who made me grow as a teacher and musician.

Our sympathy to Isabel Carley's family. She was truly a pioneer in bringing the Orff approach to students and teachers in the US, and her works will enrich the lives of many students and teachers to come. May God bring comfort to her family and friends.
