Isabelle Catherine Roberts
Isabelle Catherine Roberts died on June 16,2010 in Newport, Vermont. She was born November 24th, 1917, in Boston, Massachusetts. Her father Theron Willard of Derby, Vermont and mother Bridgett Clarke Willard of Boston returned to Vermont when Isabelle was four months old, and she grew up on the family farm in Derby. She graduated from Derby Academy in 1936. On December 23, 1938 she was married to Dwight Roberts who predeceased her in 1996 after 57 years of marriage. They made their home in Orleans for many years.
Isabelle helped organize the Ethan Allen Credit Union in the early 60s and became its first treasurer. She was a member of the Orleans Federated Church. Lifelong friendships were formed when she joined the Sew-Cro-Knit Christmas Club. Hobbies included flower gardening, knitting, quilting and bowling. Isabelle enjoyed bird watching, her cats, and staying on top of current politics. She was an avid fan of the Montreal Canadiens and the Boston Red Sox.
She is survived by her children: Rod Roberts of Sarasota, Florida, and Mona Gadwah and son-in-law Larry of Torrington, Connecticut; grandchildren: Shayne Roberts and Quinn Roberts of Florida and Chris Gadwah of Connecticut; three great grandchildren: Nathan, Abbey, and Jack Roberts; a brother, Anson Willard of Newport and a sister, Gertrude Whitehill of Kirby, with whom Isabelle lived before moving to BelAire assisted living.
She also leaves behind the following nieces and nephews: Loraine Limlaw, Scott Willard, Lisa Burke, Donna Whitehill, Cheryl McMahon, Bradley Whitehill, Helen Bicknell, Wayne Willard, Janice Sayers, Carol McGivern, Sharon Palmer and Keenan Roberts, all of whom were very special to her throughout her life.
Isabelle was also predeceased by a grandson, Bryce Roberts; by brothers: Gordon Willard and Stanley Willard; her sister, Helen at age 15, and her nephews: Gary Whitehill and Duane Willard. Friends may call from 2-4 P.M. on Sunday June 20,2010 at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home, 4670 Darling Hill Road, Newport.
A graveside service will be held on Monday June 21, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at Pleasantview Cemetery in Orleans, Vermont with the Rev. Richard Whitehill officiating.
