T.E. Cooke-Overton Funeral Home - Suffolk Obituary

Isreal Claud, (87), of Suffolk, Virginia, passed away on May 21, 2023 at Sentara Obici hospital, surrounded by family.

Isreal, fondly known as Bill, was born to Guy and Viola Rogers Claud on February 4, 1936 in Southampton County, Virginia. He was educated in the Southampton County school system and was a member of Galilee Baptist Church. Later, he moved to Suffolk and briefly worked for the railroad before working for many years as a mechanic with Nansemond County Tractor sales. After leaving Nansemond County Tractor sales, he realized his goal of farming full-time. He was no stranger to hard work.

He is survived by his wife, Carrie Parker Claud, as well as son Stanley and his wife Delphinia, daughters Valerie Claud-Demby and her husband Kelvin, and Veronica Claud. He is also survived by brother in law Richard Parker, Sr. and sister in law Pearlie Claud.

He was predeceased by his parents and siblings Frank, Naomi, Guy, Sudie, Gabrilla, Doris, Lilia, James, Webster, Oliver, Viola, and Obadiah.

He was an active member of Pleasant Union Baptist Church under the leadership of the recently deceased Reverend Doctor Vaurice Chambers. He served on the deacon board and previously served as Sunday School Superintendent. He was an advisor to the Farm Service Agency of the USDA.

He could be reserved but was known for his quick wit. He was in his element when he was outside, whether he was on his tractor, or in his shop, coming up with his own unique and creative solutions to whatever he saw as a problem or inconvenience.

He leaves behind an abundance of relatives and friends. He enjoyed his relationships and valued the time that he spent with his loved ones. Conversations with his nieces and nephews were always treasured.

He was a friend to many in various walks of life. He will be greatly missed.

Forever free from pain and suffering. Rest well.

Dear Family,

We are so deeply sorry for your loss. We are here for you if you need anything. Uncle Bill was a staple in our family. Each of his (great) nieces and nephews have such fond memories of him. As our grandmother’s last sibling, he was a loving reminder of our beloved Grandma Beadie (Gabrilla).

With love,
Gabrilla’s Grandchildren

My sincere condolences to Mr Claud’s family and friends. Mr. Claud would visit our shop, JUWACO and he and my husband spent a lot of time talking about farming and simpler times. I always enjoyed his visits. Praying for your peace and comfort at this time.

Val, my sincere condolences to you and your family. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.
