I've read "The Bartender's Tale" three times and will probably read it again next year. Doig had such a wonderful way with words that I want to underline and highlight most of what he says. So clever, so on target, so original. I yearn for the books that he never wrote.

I'm just finishing Dancing at the Rascal Fair, a book suggested in a reading list put out by members of OLLI at University of Illinois campus. I fell in love with his prose that is really poetry. Glad I discovered this author and will read more of his books.

I am saddened to know of Ivan Doig's passing. As his wife suggests, I will honor him by reading a good book, his last one, just published. I don't remember when I first started reading his books, but in 2002, I read his memoir, Heart Earth, and then went back and reread most of his others. Like Wendell Berry's characters and families, Ivan Doig's also became ingrained in my heart. My sympathies to his loved ones.
