Ivan K. Giles

GILES, Ivan K. - Of Rankin - age 86, died Thursday, July 7, 2011 at Avalon Hospice. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, July 11, 2011 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor Gloria Watson officiating. Burial in Flint Memorial Park with a military graveside service under the auspices of VFW Post #822 Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Avalon Hospice. Visitation 12-8 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m. Monday until the time of the service at the funeral home. Mr. Giles was born in Flint, Michigan on March 4, 1925, the son of the late Ernest and Anne (West) Giles. Ivan married Kathryn Theodore on July 27, 1946 in Flint. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries received while stationed in Italy. Ivan was a member of the D.A.V. He enjoyed reading and collected antique cars. Mr. Giles retired from Buick Motor Division in 1986, after 41 years of service and was a member of UAW Local #599. Surviving are wife, Kathryn; three children, Anna Bowles (Lonnie Fletcher), Ken (Gretchen) Giles of Lansing and Nola (Randy) English of Dallas, Texas; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters; several nieces and nephews.
