Ivan V. Alarcon had two sides, the bookworm who got good grades in high school and the guy who tinkered under the hood of cars. "Ivan was a very outgoing person, very active, a very hard worker," said his brother, Anibal. "He wanted to be a mechanic. He would come home and work on my Dad's cars a little." Alarcon, 23, of Jerome, Idaho, was killed Nov. 17 when his vehicle accidentally rolled over. He was assigned to Hunter Army Airfield. He went into the Army in 1999 after graduating high school and when his four years were up, he signed up for a few more. He looked forward to opening up a business with his younger brother when his term of service was up in January of 2007. "He had plans when he got out to open up his own shop _ an autobody and car audio shop," Anibal Alarcon said. "He had plans to bring me to California. When he left for Iraq, he said he would be sending for me." He also is survived by his parents, Salomon and Alicia. "He's our local hero," said Maria Crabtree, a family friend. "He was an awesome kid. He was so focused all the time."

Tomorrow is your birthday, so Jade and I will let a balloon float to you up in the sky. It will be blue (of course, your favorite color). 7 years you've been gone. You are still my favorite person! I love you and miss you. Happy Birthday to you, love.

To the family and friends of Staff Sgt. Ivan V. Alarcon:
Please accept my remembrance of Ivan on the anniversary of his passing and know that he will never be forgotten.

Hey there Amore. So its been 6 years since you have been gone. I hope and pray you are able to see the girls and how big they are now. I miss you and all the things we shared together - especially our dork moments. But I know you are always there and for that I thank you with all of my heart. I wish I could talk to you and tell you all the things that are so different. Like how the music is different, spinning rims are no longer cool OHHH and 50 cent has not made a CD in what feels like...
