GATE CITY, VA – J.D. “SMILEY” STOKES, JR., 77
J.D. “Smiley” Stokes, Jr., age 77 of Gate City, VA entered into rest on Tuesday, November 29, 2022.
He was born in Scott County, VA on May 29, 1945 and was the son of the late J.D. Stokes, Sr. and Elizabeth Stokes. In addition to his parents, J.D. was also preceded in death by his brother, Johnny Buchannan and sister, Evelyne Stokes Hardy. He was of the Baptist faith and was employed by the former Kingsport Foundry for 39 ½ years and retired as group leader.
Mr. Stokes is survived by his spouse Phillis Fields Stokes; 2 sons, Robert C. Stokes and wife Lori, Shannon Dee Stokes; 4 grandchildren, Patton Stokes, Luke Stokes, Brooke Stokes and Avery Stokes (mother, Christy Barbour); sister, Margaret Stokes.
The family will receive friends anytime at the residence.
Graveside service will be held Sunday, December 4, 2022 at 3 PM in the Tate Family Cemetery (behind the residence) with Pastor Larry Tolley officiating. Music will be provided by family and friends.
