J. Texas Howard

1928 - 2015

Howard J. Texas Howard, son, brother, husband, father and uncle, died unexpectedly on Sunday, March 22, 2015. He was born November 1, 1928 to the late William J. Howard Sr. and Bertha Dillard Howard in Omar, West Virginia, and grew up in southeastern Ohio. He graduated from Vinton County High School with stellar grades at the age of 15 and eventually moved to Columbus, Ohio, where he lived all his life. He was known for his wicked sense of humor and tremendous generosity and will be sadly missed. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother and sister-in-law William J. Howard, Jr. and Julia Dixon Howard, his sister Julia Alberta Howard, his brother-in-law C. Robert Velt and former wife Bette Grandy Howard. He is survived by his children, Marsha (Robert) Havener, Marva Harris, Marilyn Howard, Tony Howard, Maria (David) Mathis, Scott (Denise) Howard and Michael (Callie) Porter. Also surviving him are his siblings, Robert L. (Joyce) Howard, Sr., John M. (Pat) Howard, Hallie Howard, Virginia Scott, Regina Howard, and Audrey Howard Velt. He also leaves eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Dad's service will be held at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road, Columbus, Ohio on Friday, March 27 at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends at the chapel for one hour prior to the service.
