J. D. Southerland Obituary
He was a retired mechanic.
Survivors include a son: Kelley Southerland; grandson: Spencer Douglas Southerland; fiancée: Diane Phelps; step son and wife: Jason and Tasha Phelps; step grandson: Joseph Phelps; brother and sister-in-law: Bill and Peggy Southerland; three sisters: Helen Davis, Betty Woods, Odean Babb; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son: Spencer Douglas Southerland; ex-wife: Millie Ward; parents: Horace and Eula Southerland; and two brothers and sister-in-law: Arville and Shelby Jean Southerland and Wilford "Nook" Southerland.
The family will receive friends from 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm Thursday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Friday at Mt. Olivet Cemetery with Pastor Chuck Echols officiating. The Greene County Honor Guard and the Tennessee National Guard will conduct a military graveside service. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10 am Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Wimp Southerland, Mike Miller, Robert Jones, Hal Solomon, Tyrone Carter, and Eddie Kite.
Honorary pallbearers are Jeep Southerland, Danny Waldroup, and C1 and ICU nurses and staff at VA Hospital.
The family extends a special thank you to Dr. Boccarossa and RN Jeremy Slaughter.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.

Mutt will be greatly missed. He was always a happy person and somehow always made me laugh. I always have felt since meeting mutt years ago, a good friend.
