J. Herman Mahaffey M.D.

Thinking of you, John, Dan, and Carol Lynn. Your parents were always so lovely to us and to our folks, and your dad was the last one of that generation of Mahaffeys for us. I wish they were still with us. I will always remember you dad and mom so fondly.

He was a beloved surgeon and mentor to all of the nurses at KBH. He set the bar high.

Dr. Mahaffey saved my dad's life in July of 1964 with an aortograft. His name was Bing Coxwell. I will forever be grateful. He got 15 more years and to see my children.

Your dad was an amazing surgeon and person. He influenced so many of us as we passed through the Baptist School of Nursing. I graduated in 1972 and your dad was one of the main reasons I chose Cardiovascular Nursing. I used to jump at the chance to scrub with him-he was always teaching and quizzing us about the surgery. He was tough but such a wonderful role model and mentor. He was always so kind to his patients and families. I know he will be greatly missed by many.

Dan and Dawn we are so very sorry for your loss. I had the honor of working with your father at Baptist Health Louisville for many years. He taught me a lot on how to care for his post-op vascular patients, he was a great surgeon and was very particular about the care his patients received. Many great memories.
