My sympathies to the Smith family. Mr Smith loved his native Knott county and his home county of Breathitt. He put his heart and soul into the city of Jackson and in the county. Breathitt county has lost such a community leader.

It is with a sad heart I learn of Mr. Smith's passing. As can be seen by reading his obituary, he was indeed a unique man and leader whose interests touched so many areas and so many lives. Such a man will not pass our way again. Jackson and Breathitt County have greatly benefited for over 60 years by his untiring efforts. It just won't seem the same in Jackson without J. Phil. May his honored memory live among us for years to come. And, may this dear man rest in peace.
