J. T. Jones, age 78, of Glenwood, passed away on Monday, November 14, 2005 at his home.

He was born on June 4, 1927 at Langley, the son of James and Mary Hunter Jones. On December 17, 1949, he was married to Camilla Haggard Jones who preceded him in death on June 30, 1997. He was also preceded in death by all of his brothers and sisters.

Mr. Jones owned and operated J. T. Jones Gulf Service Station in Glenwood from 1952 to 1991, where his love of life and his personality, also combined with hard work and perseverance, made him a successful business man. J. T. built his business by giving people good quality service. He was one to always help others without fanfare, especially the widows and single women, who trusted him with the proper maintenance and safety of their cars. Most people throughout the area considered him their friend, especially the kids who always got a piece of bubble gum when they stopped by the station. He was an influential force in the town because people trusted him. J. T. helped organize and served as treasurer of the Glenwood Industrial Development Commission. Over the years, he served on almost every community board in town and was selected Glenwood Businessman of the Year in 1987.

J. T. proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. Several years ago, J. T. located several of his army buddies and those renewed friendships were a great enjoyment during the latter years of his life.

In 1970, J.T. was a charter member of Caddo State Bank, now First National Bank, of Glenwood and he continued to serve on the Board of Directors until his death. He was a member of the Glenwood United Methodist Church and the Glenwood Masonic Lodge, #662, where he received his 50 year membership pin in 2002.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Danny Plyler of Glenwood; his son and daughter-in-law, James Eric and Sally Jones of Little Rock; two grand daughters Erica Graham and her husband, Joe of Hot Springs and Misty J. Plyler of Little Rock; one great grandson, Jay Graham of Hot Springs; a very special friend, Jo Hunter of Glenwood; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2:00 PM, Friday, November 18, 2005 in the Glenwood United Methodist Church with Rev. Beth Turner and Misty Plyler officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

Interment will be in the Glenwood Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Military honors will be conducted by the Honor Guard of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Hot Springs.

Memorials may be made to the J. T. Jones Memorial Fund, Glenwood United Methodist Church, 404 East Broadway, Glenwood, Arkansas 71943.

Not sure what to say?

Hello James and Beverly and all of the family. I am sorry of your loss and can feel for you as I have experienced the loss of my father as you know. I bet Win Craft was right there to greet JT and welcome him. I love all you guys and my thoughts and prayers are with you. Debby

Beverly, James, and family, I am sorry to hear of your loss. It is hard to imagine Glenwood without your dad. Some of my earliest memories of Glenwood include J.T.'s service station. You have my prayers during this time.

James Eric and Beverly,
I am so sorry to know of JT's passing. I believe he is with Camilla and other family members--and I think my dad was probably one of the people there to greet him. I pray God's blessings on you all..

We are so sorry to hear of JT's passing. He will surely be missed by this community. Our prayers will be with his family that God will comfort them as only HE can.

My mother, Ethel Hull, and I knew J.T. from about 1956. His friendliness and service were the BEST!
I always enjoyed seeing him, then going to Mrs. Haggard for a fried pie and some good conversation.

Sorry to hear of your loss. Jt would always take the time to listen and answer this teenage boy's questions about his car and never belittle me for asking. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

JT has truly left many great memories of himself with us, as a kind, giving man who has touched the hearts of all those who were fortunate enough to know him. We miss him tremendously.

With deepest sympathy,
