Jack Rich Allred

November 22, 1931 ~ February 11, 2025

Salt Lake City, UT-He was born to Ernest Rich Allred and Vivian Mable Wilks Allred in St. Charles, Bear Lake County, Idaho on November 22, 1931. He attended elementary school in St. Charles and graduated from Fielding High School in Paris, Idaho in 1950.

While in high school he was junior class president. He was always active in school athletics and was elected captain of the school basketball team. He was elected student body president. He began dating his classmate Lou Jean Morgan who was the editor of the school newspaper. As they worked closely together in those school activities they continued dating until graduation and were married on August 11, 1950, in the Logan Utah temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

After high school he attended the University of Utah and in 1953, during the Korean War he received his invitation to join the U. S. Army. He served his 2 years at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri.

He spent 36 years working for Utah Power and Light Co. and retired as chief dispatcher in 1987. He was active as a Scout leader in the Boy Scouts of America for 25 years and enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and hunting. He served for 6 years as bishop of the Wilford Ward in the LDS Church.

After retiring he and Lou Jean decided to travel and see more of the world. They visited 73 different countries, mostly on 14 cruises, and all 7 continents.

He is survived by 3 children: Julie Wetzel, Darren Jack Allred and Blair Morgan Allred. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren: Tyler Jack and Emily Wetzel, Jared Craig Wetzel, Jessica Everill, Karisha and Griffith Minnis, Deidre Gressman, and Amanda Alley and 8 great grandchildren: Jack, Theodore, Lucy, Emma Jean, Lukah, Preslley, Milla and J.J. and one brother Jay Allred. Preceded in death by his wife Lou Jean, his parents and brother Gary.

Graveside service to be held at 1pm on Monday, February 17th at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. Family prayer and gathering will be from noon to 12:45pm.
