A Salt Baron's True Riches
After 24 years with the telephone company, Jack Charles Aron found himself with a few months off between jobs and was never happier. Staying at home meant he could spend all day taking care of his son, Timothy, which was especially important for Mr. Aron because his own childhood had been very unhappy.

It was also important because he and his wife had been forced to wait years before having their son.

More recently, Mr. Aron, 52, worked in information technology at Marsh & McLennan, leaving before dawn and traveling by car, train and ferry so he could be home in Bergenfield, N.J., in time to coach his son's Little League and basketball games.

Although he was often so sour at home that his wife Evelyn referred to him as "Mr. Grumpy," he was very easygoing on the ballfield or the court, she said.

Four years ago, the couple bought some land in the Philippines, where Mrs. Aron is from, and developed a salt farm. They called it Jet Farm (using the first letters of Jack, Evelyn and Timothy), and Mr. Aron told people he might like to live there after he retired.

The investment earned Mr. Aron a new nickname at work: Jack Aron the Salt Baron.

Not sure what to say?

I always think of Jack when I we remember this mournful day. I worked with him at NYNEX at 1166. We would often grab lunch and chat in the courtyard and talk about our families. He was a great guy and it was extremely sad learning of his passing thru this tragedy. Know that his memory is still alive and vivid after all these years. Good people like Jack leave lasting impressions that are never forgotten and their memories live forever. Sorry for your loss.

He sounds like a great man I'm sorry for your loss

To the Aron Family: Please know even after 21 years America has not forgotten! I hope you have found love and peace in your lives since that tragic day.

Remembering Jack on the 20th anniversary of 9/11...

Jack loved his family. I remember him breaking into tears one time at lunch, describing the sensitivity of his little boy. He was so proud of him and he had so much empathy. He was full of love, a good and kind man, humble and true. I remember when he returned from the Philippines, he told me the story of the salt farming which is how he got his nickname. I think of him a lot, and I still get choked up sometimes when I think of him describing his son. I am lucky to have known him.

May Jack be safe in our Creators home.

Dear Evelyn and Tim,
As I do every year for the last 13 l listen to the roll call, and think of the both of you and what you missed. I hope you are well and comforted by his memory. I always looked forward to our annual meetings. He, was a true gentleman

September 11,2013 - This is the 12th Anniversary of that horrible day.
It's a little ironic that we worked together at Blue Hill on Disaster Recovery planning for NYNEX. RIP Jack.
