Not sure what to say?

I took Dr. Barnes' class in 1980-81 as a senior who moved from Brooklyn, NY, to Colorado Springs--a tough year for me. Dr. Barnes raised the bar when it came to English class. That class was a building block for me to go on to Columbia University for a master's in linguistics. Teachers are critical to our development and, in my opinion, never get the credit they deserve. Dr. Barnes influenced my education positively and I am sure he did that for many others.

I just found out about the passing of J.D. My prayers are with you Lorene, Scott, and Amy.

39 years ago, Scott introduced me to his father, Dr. Barnes, who encouraged me to study literature, so I majored in English in college. He taught me speech and debate, and it was he who suggested that I become a lawyer. He introduced me to many of my life-long friends. His influence on my life was huge. How can you measure the kind of impact he had on our community? A life well lived!

"We are such stuff as dreams are made on, and our little life is rounded with a sleep." (The Tempest)

Thank you Dr. Barnes. Your passion and love of literature ignited a fire in me for learning that touches me every day. You were a teacher that helped shape my life and mind. Thank you, you will always be in my heart.

To Scott and all the family. in 1980, Dr Barnes was that one teacher who bugged me, irritated me and generally drove teenage me crazy, and I thank God for him. He helped take a kid on the road to trouble and pointed me toward a better way of life. He is one of those important people who I owe a debt to for teaching me about character. All my love, all my best.

I have thought of Dr. Barnes over the years with absolute respect. I will always remember his offering compassion and kindness one very bad day in a not particularly very good senior year at Doherty. God Speed.

I will always remember Dr. Barnes giving me a great opportunity and a love for theater. My heartfelt condolences to everyone in the Barnes family on your loss.

It was a honor to be one of your many students. May the Lord welcome you home as a faithful servant.

I am so sorry to hear this. Dr. Barnes was my English and Drama teacher back in the mid 80s and I remember his dry humor and genuine concern for his students and his love of the literature.
