Jack E. Leyes Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, Thursday, April 23, 2020. Beloved husband of Marilyn J. Leyes (nee Sylvester); dear father of Timothy (Denise) Leyes and Daniel (Carolyn) Leyes, Cynthia Leyes, Catherine (Stuart) Cummings, Douglas (Kimberly) Leyes and Jacqueline (Shawn) Bergquist; dear grandfather of 16; great-grandfather of 9; dear son of the late Emil O. and Elsie S. Leyes of Burlington, IA; dear brother of the late Leona Hawkinson; our dear uncle, great-uncle, cousin and friend of many.


Mr. Leyes was retired from the United States Army, a member of VFW Post #7106 in Ennis, TX., a member of St. Joseph Parish (Manchester) and a member of St. Vincent De Paul Society and Young at Heart Senior Citizen group at St. Joseph's Parish. A devoted Chicago Cubs fan.


In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. Vincent De Paul Society at St. Joseph's Parish (Manchester). The Rosary will be said from 4:30-5:00 PM Thursday May 7, 2020. Services and interment are private. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

I loved working with Jack and Jo at the Sts Peter & Paul soup kitchen. Jack endured shoulder surgery because he said he did it for his family, always thinking of others first. I will miss him. And much love and sympathy go to Jo and your entire family. God bless, Love, Marie

I came across this looking for someone else. So sad to hear. This is a terrible time to go through this when people can't get together. I have many memories of the times we have all shared. Our love to all. Miriam and Cameron.

What a very wonderful man! He was a great friend to my father joe Kudrna. My dad cherished their friendship and we are grateful for his kindness shown to our father.

Our deepest sympathy to the family. Jack and Jo were our neighbors on Louise Ln when we moved back to Texas and were wonderful neighbors. We moved in as a family of 3 with only a 4 year old son at the time and quickly we had 2 more boys within 14 months of each other. Jack came over with a 6 pack of beer for my husband and said any man who can give his wife 3 boys like that deserve a 6 pack. He was always talking to our oldest, giving him math word problems to solve. He was the best. May his...
