Jack Newell, 90, former principal of the M.M. Seylar Elementary School, died on June 13, 2025 in The Villages, Florida after enjoying 32 years of retirement.
Jack was born in East Stroudsburg, PA on August 2, 1934 to his parents, Violet and Sheldon Newell. After graduating from Stroudsburg High School, he served in the U.S. Army, later using funds from the GI Bill to attend college at East Stroudsburg University. Upon graduation from college he was employed as a high school social studies teacher in Easton, PA while earning his Master’s Degree in Education from Lehigh University. Jack took great pride in his work in the Pennridge School District helping to educate decades of area school children.
In retirement Jack filled life with many rounds of golf as well as bowling leagues, bridge clubs, and live music. An avid sports enthusiast from his childhood playing basketball and baseball, Jack shared this love of sports with his kids, creating and coaching a traveling summer softball team and league in the area for local young women. No matter where he went, Jack encountered someone he knew. People were never strangers for long around him.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Elizabeth (2001), and his cherished companion Patricia (2020). He is survived by his two daughters, Nancy and Connie, his son-in-law Kurt, and this granddaughter Elena, as well as many valued friends and colleagues from his extended years in both Pennsylvania and Florida.
Graveside services will be held at 11am on Friday, July 11th, 2025 at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Perkasie, PA with Reverend Sarah Aasheim of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating.
