Part of Jack's charm was his infectious optimism. He never doubted our little group could do anything. As the one often saddled with responding to an Federal RFP (Request for Proposal) it could be annoying, but it made us focus on our skills, abilities and achievements. We may never have been selected as the RFP winner, but we won plenty of other contracts as a direct result of the arguments we had put forth responding to those RFPs.

I was mentored by Jack at the Center for Urban Studies at the University of Chicago. He taught and managed in a seemingly easy and natural manner. I learned much and became a friend. His notions about the connectivity of the environment and human activity respected the temporal and spiritual worlds. He will always be part of my life. I will miss him.
