JACK E. SNEAD

GREENSBORO — Jack Snead, age 62, died Monday, July 2, 2012, at his home.

A native of Greensboro, N.C., he is survived by his wife of 21 years Susan (Sue) Snead, son Kevin Snead, both of Jamestown, and son Christopher Llorente and his wife Stephanie and grandson Carter of Apex. He was a very loving, devoted husband and father, which meant so much to his sons. A graduate of Grimsley High School, Jack worked for SimplexGrinnell for 39 years.

Jack and brothers Dennis, Jr. and Charlie, with their parents, Boots and Dennis, Sr. were avid Roller Skaters in both Dance and Speed. In 1962, the family was recognized for their "Family Affair" of skating. They were, as far as we know, the first family that qualified at state and regional levels to compete at the national event. Jack won multiple speed skating meets, entered into refereeing, and helped his parents in their officiating roles for another 15+ years.

Jack, always the thrill seeker, discovered hang-gliding, then learned to skydive and found he enjoyed it so much that he took up videography while skydiving. His videos featured the first-time jumpers' voices, and it made their experiences much more rewarding.

Motorcycles were another passion for Jack. He enjoyed riding and owned several bikes throughout his life, the last being a beautiful blue 2005 Honda Goldwing. With his safety jacket and safety helmet he became known as "Captain Highlighter." Both Sue and Kevin enjoyed riding with him. He taught Motorcycle classes at GTCC Jamestown for several years and became a Medic First Aid Instructor. Motorcycle safety was something Jack preached about, again another passion.

The very simple act of volunteering with the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Central NC as a motorcycle escort ballooned into a passion for the Tour to Tanglewood. He participated in the event each September for 12 years. He devoted many long and loving hours to ensure cyclists were safe and on good roads. He was great at coordinating what needed to take place for a successful and safe route.

He then found the Red Cross of High Point, escorted one time for The Tour de Triad, and took over route improvement and safety for more than five years. Cyclists enjoyed what he was able to accomplish.

As a family, we couldn't have asked for a greater man. The blessing of the love he had In his heart for his family was shown in his honesty and expectectations of perfection. All who knew him appreciated his clarity and understood that there were no hidden agendas. He did not have to tell us he loved us. We knew.

Other survivors include brothers, Charlie and Dennis Snead, Jr. and wife Joy of Jamestown as well as nine nieces and nephews and his aunt Ruth Roberts of Greensboro. Jack was preceded in death by his parents Dennis Snead, Sr and Buelah (Boots) Snead as well as nephew Avery Snead.

We will be accepting family and friends at Forbis and Dick N. Elm Friday July 6 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and a memorial reception Saturday July 7 at Jamestown Baptist church, Guilford Rd Jamestown 2 p.m. until 4 p.m.
