We celebrated The Life of legendary Ferris football Coach Bob Leach on September 20, 2020 in Big Rapids. The memorial service included discussion of Ferris State football two year Captain Jack Spencer #20, the quarterback converted to linebacker. He led us to an undefeated season, a truly remarkable feat considering the prior winless season and a program with one win in 4 years. Thank you Jack, all your teammates miss and mourn your passing. Rest In Peace. My most sincere condolences to...

Jack was one heck of a great coach that had respect from every player that wanted to play ball and show heart and hustle. He always had a winning team and could pick players who wanted to hustle, those who didn't could sit on the bench and watch those who did. Most impressively Jack knew the rules and would not allow competition pull one over on him. This is why my late Son, Ryan Freel, begged me to let him transfer go to Englewood where jack taught baseball. Jack promoted those who wanted to...

Every kid growing up in Fruitport knew of Jack and wanted to be like him. Condolences to Ruth and kids.

Condolences to Ruthie and kids. I have good memories of playing football with Jack at Fruitport High School and Ferris State. He was a great player and a great guy. So sorry for your loss.

My condolences to Ruthie and the entire Spencer family.
I went to school with Jack at Fruitport High. He
was an amazing guy: tough as nails, athletic, and a great leader. All these qualities made him the great coach he was to become. He touched so many lives in and around Fruitport and was a friend to all. He will be greatly missed.

Jack and I went to Fruitport High and studied education at Western Michigan University. I enjoyed Jack's sense of humor and zest for life. One of the funniest stories he told me, was that he and some of his high school football friends, would have knitting contests! The team mates names that participated will remain anonymous. I'm not surprised that Jack became a well-loved teacher and coach. I'm sure he will be missed.Leslie (Shaffer) Ostyn FHS'67

To the Spencer family it is great to hear all the nice things people say about Jack. I know the Spencer family when we were kids. Jack brother Chuck was a friend. After years I had a nice phone call with Jack about this brother. And it was like the years never passed. May memories keep him in your hearts for years. God bless you all.
