Not sure what to say?

Our most heartfelt sympathy is extended to the Sunderman family. We were neighbors years ago and the children played together and were close friends. As just neighboring parents, we admired how well the Sunderman children behaved and were taught, which was due to the wonderful father (Jack) and mother.

Dear Jeanette and family, I am truly saddened to hear of Dr. Sunderman's passing. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. I have had some phenominal and inspiring teachers in my life, but he was, by far, the best. He was truly inspiring as a mentor. He showed me how to revel in seeing the 'light come on' in the eyes of his and later my own students. He was the man and teacher I always wanted to be. Truly a great human being. I have never forgotten him and how he helped make me the...

I knew Jack here at IPFW for almost eight years. I often saw him post-retirement at Fort Wayne Children's Choir performances. I count myself very fortunate to have known him.

My path and Jack's have not crossed for many years, but I have watched carefully and with great interest the many contributions he has made to knowledge of the geology of Indiana.

I was fortunate to be a geology student of Dr. Sunderman's in the early 1980s. He was a marvelous and gifted instructor. His instruction in the field was laden with insightful and telling observations and he drew out the best in his students.
My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.

I have known Jack since 1970, as a colleague and a friend. He started the Dept. of Geosciences at IPFW, and was instrumental in the early development of the Department. We shared many geological field trips. He was a great field geologist, and an exceptional educator. He will be missed tremendously by all who knew him. My condolences to Jeanette and his family. We share with you this great loss.

Jeanette and family,
Jack was more than a 'best educator' for me... he was my friend. From 1982 to today, I always enjoyed speaking with and learning from Jack. From the many trips to the Grand Canyon, Colorado, the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and down into southern Indiana, Jack shared his deep love and appreciation of geology and the out-of-doors with all who knew him. He will be missed.

Jack Sunderman was a down-to-earth man, involved with the community and research. It was always pleasant to talk with him and it was a honor knowing him.
