Jack was born to Jack Walter Welty Sr. and Mildred Hunter in St. Louis, Missouri. At the age of two his father married Dorothy Shannon Ruhr and he was brought into their home where he was a treasured member of the family along with his sister, Suzie. When he was 15, Jack went to work for P.N. Hirsch sweeping floors and became a hit with the managers when he noticed that the shoes marked for $1.99 were far outselling the ones marked for $2. He moved the $2 shoes to the $1.99 spot and they quickly sold out. Thus began his 45 year career in retail. In 1968 P.N. Hirsch relocated him to Abilene, TX where he met lifelong friend Larry Connell and future wife, Elaine Snipes. Jack and Elaine were married in December of 1970 and with her son, Warren Snipes, they became a family of their own. In 1972 Jack went to work for the Dunlap Company in Lubbock, TX where his linen, luggage and gift departments consistently lead the sales in their stores until the company closed its doors in 2007. After a short stay of employment at Anna's Linens he retired in 2008 when he suffered his first heart attack. At this point, with a wealth of time on his hands, he set out to discover his family history and joined Ancestry.com which proved to be a worthwhile venture when he traced the Welty family all the way back to Switzerland and in 2010 located his brother Bill Hunter, about whom he had no previous knowledge. Bill proved invaluable in furthering Jack's journey by providing a great deal of information about their mother Mildred. In 2011 Jack and his Cousin Rose, who had located him over a decade earlier, went to Missouri and Arkansas where they discovered a multitude of cousins. After a lifetime without one, Jack finally had a large family to call his own. He is survived by his wife Elaine, Daughter Sarah, Sons Sam and his wife Amy, David and Warren Snipes, Grandson Jakob, Sister Suzie Czeschin, Brother Bill Hunter and Father-in-Law Roy Barrett.

Elaine,
I would like to add to Jacks list of successes as being a teacher as well. The greatest thing Jack had taught me was in order to succeed in life you need to be part of the "solution" . This quote has served me well even to this day . I believe we all will miss him here on earth , even though he is on the better side of eternity and hanging out with God in Heaven
Thank you Jack for all of your Help
Richard

Dearest Elaine,
My heart aches with you in the loss of your husband, Jack. As I too have lost my soul mate, I am empathizing with you. Give me a call if you need to talk to someone who understands. I am praying that God will give you strength during this time and that you will feel Him very close. You are loved, Elaine. I've always felt a connection to you because when I arrived in Ranger as a new student, lo and behold, there was another Elaine in my class. Prayers for you and...
