Kirkley-Ruddick Funeral Home - Glen Burnie Obituary

Jaclyn “Jackie” Elise Bryant was born July 7, 1986 in Columbia, MD to Edward J. and Barbara Dillon Bryant. She grew up in Glen Burnie and was a resident of Halethorpe for the past 8 years. Jackie was a 2004 graduate of Archbishop Spalding High School, where she was inducted into their music hall of fame.  She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Towson University in Music Education and her Master’s in Music Performance from James Madison University.
Jackie was a beloved music teacher for 13 years. She taught at Church Lane Elementary and Milbrook Elementary in Baltimore County for 6 years and more recently at Thunder Hill Elementary School in Columbia for 7 years. When asked if she had kids, Jackie responded with, “I have over a thousand, but none at home.” In addition to her classroom duties, Jackie was also the conductor of the Howard County Elementary Honors Band, which brought together students from each of the 42 elementary schools.
She played clarinet with the Columbia Concert Band, Category 5 Wind Ensemble, Greenspring Valley Orchestra and the Maryland All State Community Band. During the pandemic, when playing together was impossible, she participated in the Virtual Concert Band which brought musicians from around the world together. She also enjoyed playing board games and was an avid online gamer who belonged to several online groups including Sheroes, Underpowered and Static Zero. She enjoyed travel, was an avid reader, a Baltimore Ravens fan and enjoyed spending time with her cats.
Left to cherish her memory are her parents Edward J. and Barbara D. Bryant of Glen Burnie, brother Mark V. Bryant (Karissa) and her niece and Goddaughter Fiona Bryant. She is preceded by her sister Joanna M. Bryant.  Jackie passed away peacefully at Johns Hopkins Hospital following a brief illness and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers or trees, please donate to The Jackie Bryant Memorial Scholarship Fund, this scholarship will directly benefit a Music Education student studying clarinet at Towson University.

A celebration of her life will take place on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at her alma mater, Archbishop Spalding High School. We will gather at 10am for music, a short memorial service and light refreshments to follow. An announcement about her internment will be made at the service.

MyCondolenences to the family of JaclynE. Bryant

I had the honor to meet Jackie in high school. Her joy, kindness and high expectations for herself and her friends made all of us better. She brought light to the world, and I will miss her very much.

My condolences to the Bryant family and deepest sympathies for your loss. I have some fond memories of Jackie both during our time at ASHS, and years later when visiting the school where she was the band director to perform for her students. I remember how much those kids loved her and seeing what they meant to her. Jackie was exceptionally talented and I always admired her passion for music education.

My condolences, I had the fortune of knowing Jackie since grade school. And through a flute of fate and shared bonda of friendship, was able to enjoy her companionship long after those young years of our lives. She will be missed.

It is difficult to put words together for this loss. My thoughts and prayers are for you, Barb and Ed. I remember Jackie in kindergarten, summer days in my pool, as part as my girls scout troop, all our camping trips, and the most enthusiastic band member at Slade and Spalding. The unfairness of such a loss, of a child, no matter what age. I have the deepest empathy and understanding for the gravity of this pain. God bless you Barb, Ed, and Markall my love and prayers.

Very shocking.
Hard to believe or imagine.
Jackie was a very nice and supportive colleague.
You could have a good conversation with her about what you were working on, what you were currently doing, and what you were trying to achieve.
She always found interest and enthusiasm for the work that other people did to contribute to the musical world, and she respected you for it.
She was respectful to the people around her.
It is so upsetting that someone as...

Senior Recital at Towson University, Jackie and Dr. Levin

You were a beautiful angel in our midst. How lucky I was to be your mentor and friend.

We are so sad to hear this news. We had the pleasure of rooming with Jackie at James Madison University. We are thinking of her and her family during this difficult time.

I played clarinet with Jackie in the Columbia Concert Band and the Maryland All State Band, and I am so sad that she is gone. She was funny and smart and a fantastic clarinetist. I hope her friends and family find comfort in their memories of her.
