Not sure what to say?

My brother Fran and I were childhood neighbors and playmates of Jake and his brother Richard. I knew even at that early age that Jacob was a special and extraordinary person. Rest in peace Jacob and thank you for the wonderful childhood memories.

Jake and I had classrooms next to eachother for many years. We discovered our mutal love for music and we went from co workers to friends meeting throughout the years trading music recordings and for dinner and conversation about JAZZ and other styles of music. RIP Jake

You were my favorite uncle, and I will never forget you. You taught me chess and checkers, and how to play tennis. And many Ice cream. You never treated me differently. You went out of your way to learn my language so you could communicate with me. You even brought a closed-captioning device so I could watch TV better with English subtitle. Because of you, my world opened up in a bigger way. Thank you, Uncle Jake. I will always cherish our moments together. With love, Anika

Our sincere condolences for our long time coworker/friend. Prayers for the family.

I taught with Jake Ashburn at both Walnut Ridge HS and South HS in Columbus. Jake was a brilliant, kind, and thoughtful colleague. His students loved and revered him. Truly saddened to hear of his passing.

Jake was an esteemed colleague of mine at South High School. May his memory be a blessing to all who knew him.

I was fortunate to have Jake as a professor while getting my master's in the 80s through the University if Dayton. He was one of the best! Too often graduate-level classes, particularly in education, are not very rigrous. That, however, was not the case in Jake's, and I loved it! I was also so glad when my nephew, who is also a CPS English teacher, worked with Jake at West HS. To this day, he considers him a mentor. I am so sorry for your loss, which is also ours. He made a difference...

Dr Ashburn was one of the greatest English teachers and def a fav of mine at South High...he will be missed
